Aurora, Sac, Kickapoo, and St. Louis Canyons

Length

2 hr

Difficulty

Easy/Moderate

About the Hike:

By starting the 3 mile roundtrip hike at the Visitor Center and taking the bluff trail, you will have the opportunity to see three canyons: Aurora, Kickapoo, and Sac, all along the way to St. Louis Canyon. These canyons are named after Native American tribes. Continuing on this trail, you will reach St. Louis Canyon, the only spring fed waterfall in the park and also the site of the infamous Starved Rock Murders.

Suggested Route:

Start at the Visitor Center, heading up past the lodge on way to St. Louis Canyon. On the way, stop at Aurora, Sac, and Kickapoo Canyons (all are right off the trail). After St. Louis, follow the same trail back to the Visitor Center.

Difficulty:

Easy/Moderate

A few staircases to descend down prior to entering the canyon. Since this is an in-and-out trail, staircases must be climbed on the return and a somewhat step grade paved hill is on the trail.
